These Film & TV Icons Dazzled in Dandyism at This Year's Met Gala 2025!

All eyes were on the stars at the Met Gala of 2025, this year's theme titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”. The theme adopted the popular style of Black dandyism, and the idea of "dandyism" started a long time ago in Europe, as far back as the 1800s. Black dandyism grew from a need to fight back against racism, and black men would wear stylish, fancy clothes to show they could be just as refined and elegant as anyone else in response to racial oppression in that time. And the roots and story of this style came to be at one of the biggest galas in the world! With this year's theme, here’s the top five best looks of this year's gala!

Colman Domingo

All eyes were on one of the prestigious co-chairs of the Met Gala. Who was the first to arrive? The 2x Oscar Nominated actor wowed onlookers as he made his presence known. Being industry and fashion royalty, it was only proper that he dress like royalty as well. Domingo donned a blue pleated cape with a stunning gold brocade on the shoulders, and accessorized with a Boucheron necklace layered. He also wore a noticeable pearl ear cuff to top off the look. As a film industry royal member, he took photographers and staff aback as he revealed underneath quite the suit ensemble! Domingo wore a black and white plaid suit, with a striped button up paired with a polka dot tie, the look being complete with grey slacks. With a bejeweled black floral accessory, the star smiled brightly for the cameras as he posed for pictures to capture his radiance.

Sydney Sweeney

The 2x Emmy Nominated actress opted for a stunning sequinned look for the night! Sydney Sweeney wore a custom Miu Miu black sequinned A-line gown to this year's gala, adorned with cascading beaded fringe that draped gracefully over both shoulders. A daring keyhole cutout at the bodice was accented with a sculptural gold rosette, adding a touch of vintage romance to the look. The look was more than just sartorial splendor—it was a cinematic tribute. Sweeney’s gown drew direct inspiration from Kim Novak’s iconic role in Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, a character she is set to portray in the upcoming film Scandalous. She teased this homage on her Instagram story, posting a black-and-white photo of Novak as a subtle nod to her forthcoming role. In a fitting twist of fate, Scandalous will be directed by none other than Colman Domingo—an icon of Met Gala elegance in his own right. Sweeney completed the look with a sleek, low bun, embracing the evening’s vintage theme by styling it with delicately sculpted kiss-curls that framed her face, adding the perfect retro-chic flourish to an already unforgettable look.

Damson Idris

Talk about a dramatic entrance! F1 actor Damon Idris arrived to this year’s Met Gala in an actual Formula 1 racing suit, complete with a Swarovski-adorned helmet! However the excitement happened before he even stepped foot on the carpet. Idris decided to really arrive in style and made his entrance in an actual race car! His dramatic arrival initially left onlookers puzzled about the identity of the person behind the bejeweled helmet, but once on the red carpet, Idris orchestrated a second grand reveal. With the assistance of two ushers, he shed the racing suit to reveal a meticulously tailored red plaid three-piece suit. This ensemble, exuding the classic All-American Tommy Hilfiger aesthetic, featured a bold red tartan pattern and sharp tailoring, aligning with the evening's focus on Black style and tailoring.

At this year’s Met Gala, Henry Golding delivered a masterclass in modern elegance, seamlessly aligning with the event's theme. Golding donned a custom gold ensemble by British designer Ozwald Boateng, renowned for infusing traditional menswear with vibrant colors and contemporary cuts. Golding wore a black shirt underneath the suit in contrast to the gold, and in elevating his outfit, Golding accessorized with a rare rose-gold Cartier Tank à Guichet watch. It was a minimalist timepiece first introduced in 1928. As an avid watch collector, Golding referred to this piece as his "last holy grail," highlighting its historical significance and his deep appreciation for Cartier's craftsmanship. He kept his hairstyle simple yet classy, with a clean combed look and only a single curl falling over his forehead.

Priyanka and Nick Jonas

Priyanka Chopra took this years theme seriously, and to a whole new level! The actress and producer donned a custom white Balmain set adorned with black polka dots, exuding a retro elegance reminiscent of classic Hollywood fashion. Complimenting the look, she wore a wide-brimmed hat, adding a dramatic flair to her appearance. But the standout of her outfit, as if it couldn’t be any more radiant, was a breathtaking 241-carat Bulgari Magnus Emerald pendant, which served as a striking centerpiece, elevating the ensemble's sophistication. Chopra's hair was styled loosely so that it allowed the hat to be the face frame. Accompanying her, Nick Jonas complemented Chopra's look with a high-neck cream blouse and tailored trousers designed by Bianca Saunders. He accessorized with Tiffany & Co. brooches, creating a harmonious and stylish couple's appearance.

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter really woke everyone up when she brought the espresso to the Met Gala with her jaw dropping look! While the singer has risen to fame with her Short n’ Sweet album, she made a name for herself in film before she soared in the music business. Known for Tall Girl, Tall Girl 2, Work It, and the Disney channel show we all know and love, Girl Meets World, Carpenter has been a “busy woman” in both businesses indeed! For the evening, she wore a figure hugging pantless Louis Vuitton bodysuit with lengthy tailcoats, a respectful nod to the dandy style and theme. The star noted that she went pantless per designer Pharrell’s vision. “"He was like, 'You're quite short so no pants for you.' So here we are. Here we are," she told Vogue on the Met Gala red carpet. The dark brown tuxedo style also featured dazzling buttons and a white collar, and Carpenter made sure to accessorize with plenty of diamonds — she wore necklaces, rings and even an anklet. Of course, she let her iconic blonde hair and bangs down for the evening to finish the look. Classy, alluring, and on theme.
